CO-FOUNDER, PRESIDENT AND CEO

 

Nicholas M. Apostol – Born in England in 1947, Mr. Apostol was first introduced to Macaws as a child in Peru. He adopted one as a pet at his Hacienda in Puerto Rico in 1982. By 1984 he had several more while living and working in El Salvador. In 1985, he was given a Scarlet by the Contras. It had been taken from the jungles of Nicaragua. Upon returning to the Puerto Rico property, he and his wife had more than a dozen Psitacines. In 1992, they incubated a few eggs and established the sanctuary. In 2002, he moved to Palm City, Florida with all the birds and established Macaw Rescue Inc. in 2006 as a 501(c)3 tax exempt public charity.

CO-FOUNDER, and OPERATIONS DIRECTOR

 Jeannete G. Byington (Apostol) – Born in Japan in 1950, Jean returned to Connecticut with her father who had a long career as a US Diplomat. She adored animals and served the Humane Society of Puerto Rico as its Director for many years. The home was always full of adoptions and after joining her husband in Puerto Rico in 1981 she quickly accepted the macaws as part of the family. She was in charge of the daily care and maintenance as the sanctuary grew.

STAFF

FLORIDA BRANCH - Rodolfo Pascual – Born in Guatemala in 1989, Rodolfo frequently saw psittacines in the wild in his native country. He joined the Sanctuary in 2021 and among other duties provides for the feeding and daily upkeep as well as repairs and maintenance to the aviaries and cages

 PUERTO RICO BRANCH – Jose Garcia Pino - (General Manager) -Born in Cuba in 1946, Jose emigrated to the United States in 1958. He married and raised his family in Puerto Rico. He was a leader in mortgae banking and owned several construction companies on the Island. He remains active in the free Cuba movement

  PANAMA BRANCH – Andres A. Jaen Rodriguez-(Coordinator) - Andres was born in Panama in 1965 and graduated from law school before marrying and raising his family there. He served in several senior positions in the government and served as President of the Lion's Club. He remains active with the Vallarino Law firm.
